LA traffic and lifestyle events — how do people even manage?
We moved to LA from Denver and the traffic is killing our lifestyle game. Club Joi is 45 minutes from our place in the Valley on a Saturday night, and the drive home at 3am isn't fun either. How do LA lifestyle couples deal with the logistics?
Best Answer
LA traffic and the lifestyle is a real challenge and every couple deals with it differently:
- Uber/Lyft — Most common solution. Yes, it's $40-60 each way but you can both drink, nobody drives tired at 3am, and you can fool around in the back seat on the way home.
- Hotel nearby — Book a room near the club. There are decent hotels near Joi for under $150. This is our preferred method — we make a whole date night of it. Dinner nearby, walk to the club, stumble back to the hotel, sleep in, brunch the next day.
- House parties closer to home — The Valley has its own house party scene. Sherman Oaks, Encino, Woodland Hills all have active lifestyle communities. Find them through the apps.
- Time your drive — Saturday night traffic on the 101/405 actually clears up after 10pm. If you leave your house at 10:30, you can be at Joi by 11:15 and still catch the prime hours. The drive home at 2-3am is smooth.
Seriously consider the hotel option. It transforms a stressful logistics problem into a mini weekend getaway.

Valley couple here. We do the hotel thing every time we go to Joi or Labyrinth. The Kimpton La Peer in West Hollywood is our favorite — boutique, sexy, walking distance to everything. We check in Saturday afternoon, do dinner on Santa Monica Blvd, hit the club, walk back, order room service Sunday morning. It makes the whole experience feel like a vacation instead of a stressful commute.
